“Printmaking Processes and Stone Sculpture Techniques Workshop” at the Calgary Teacher Convention

I had a privilege to attend the “Printmaking Processes and Stone Sculpture Techniques Workshop” at the Calgary Teacher Convention 2020 on February 13. It was a one-day workshop, which focused on teaching the soapstone sculpture carving and printmaking to middle and high school students. This hands-on session allowed me to carve a simple pendant-like sculpture and etch a small-scale intaglio plate. We also learned about the tools and various techniques involved in both processes. The lessons (morning and afternoon sessions) were also oriented towards teacher’s practice and pedagogy.

Taking the workshop was an enriching experience and a great opportunity for me to collaborate with my Alberta’s colleges towards incorporating learned skills and pedagogical approaches into our future teaching. I will use the knowledge I gained during this workshop when teaching and assisting students at School District No. 5.
