Teaching Philosophy

I believe art is a subject of great importance in our society. The study of art helps to develop a willingness to explore new areas of life – something that does not exist yet.  Students of art learn to take risks, learn from mistakes and develop openness to possibilities. Creativity fosters exploration and inspirations from the world around them. As a teacher I work to promote creativity and encourage students to find their inner voices and express them through art.

In my classroom I introduce the theory of art such as elements of art, art styles, and famous artists through engaging presentations followed by hands-on activities. In this way, students are able to discover their artistic languages and use problem solving skills. In order for each student to construct their own conceptual framework, I believe that I must challenge learners to reflect on, organize and integrate new knowledge with what they already know. Students’ works take on new meaning and new understanding when they can be linked to their personal experiences. I think such situation also encourages young artists to make a connection between their creations and the real world. Additionally it helps differentiate the learning process based on various interests and fascinations.
