Implementing technology while teaching Art and Photography; Grade: 2-11

I try to use technology in my teaching as much as possible because I believe technology helps teachers to offer more interesting lessons and provides learners with additional learning tools:

Smart TV Screen for slideshows of images being part of the lecture (providing students with reference pictures as well as inspirations) and presentations -->Visual learning.

Laptop/Internet Web for source of music (creating friendly environment and inspiring atmosphere in the classroom). Many times the sounds were related to the theme (objectives) of the lesson. For example: East Indian instrumental music when students worked on the symbolic depiction of elephants --> Aural learning.

Cameras/Cellphones to capture images during the Digital Photo class. I introduced different motifs for students to shoot every week such as: reflection of an object or a person and paper abstraction, just to name a few. Students could use their build-in cameras in their phones or borrow a camera from the Art Studio. They had and option to take pictures indoor or outdoor. I also used a camera to document students’ artistic process and products (building my own digital database).

Photo Editing Software like PicMonkey was used by students to enhance the quality of photographs or to modify an image. For that purpose the school provided the students with an access to laptops (portable carts) or IPads.

Computers/IPads were employed to researcher images and info related to art classes. Additionally, students wrote the artists’ statements on their computers and then we printed them out, so they could accompany their art creations on display.
